This policy establishes transparent and responsible use of AI by authors, editors, and reviewers while protecting confidentiality and human accountability.
1. General Principle
AI tools may assist limited aspects of scholarly work, but they do not replace human responsibility for accuracy, originality, confidentiality, attribution, integrity, and editorial judgment.
2. AI Cannot Be an Author
AI systems, large language models, chatbots, or automated tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot take responsibility for the work or respond to integrity concerns.
3. Author Disclosure Requirement
Authors must disclose material use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools in research, analysis, coding, image generation/manipulation, translation, or manuscript preparation. The declaration should identify the tool/version where known, purpose, and extent of human verification. Routine spelling or basic grammar checking need not be disclosed unless it materially changes scholarly content.
4. Prohibited Author Uses
AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, participants, citations, references, results, images, or evidence; disguise plagiarism; or replace required ethical and scholarly oversight.
5. Editors
Editors must not delegate editorial decisions to AI and must not upload confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, author identities, or unpublished data to public or non-approved generative AI systems. Limited administrative use is acceptable only where confidentiality and human oversight are preserved.
6. Reviewers
Reviewers are prohibited from using generative AI tools to evaluate, summarize, analyze, or draft the substantive peer-review report for a confidential manuscript. Manuscript content, figures, data, supplementary files, and confidential correspondence must not be uploaded to AI systems.
7. Improper or Undisclosed AI Use
Depending on severity, JAMBD may request clarification, correction, reject a manuscript, issue a post-publication notice, or investigate the matter as a research-integrity concern.
Required Article Declaration
The final article should contain an identifiable
AI Use Disclosure. Example: “The authors did not use generative AI in the research, analysis, or writing of this manuscript.”
Policy Commitment
JAMBD applies this policy consistently to protect editorial independence, research integrity, transparency, and the reliability of the scholarly record.
