Emergency Education During Pregnancy in the Working Area of Telaga Dewa Health Center, Bengkulu City
Abstract
Pregnancy emergencies remain a major concern because delayed recognition of danger signs may increase maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. This community service activity aimed to improve pregnant women’s knowledge of pregnancy danger signs, help-seeking behavior, nutritional fulfillment, and safe birth planning in the Telaga Dewa area of Bengkulu City. The activity used an interactive health education approach conducted over one month through preparation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation stages. The participants were 25 pregnant women. Data were collected using questionnaires before and after the education session and analyzed descriptively through frequency distributions. The results indicated a substantial improvement in knowledge. Before the activity, 6 participants were in the low category, 14 in the moderate category, and 5 in the high category. After the activity, 24 participants reached the high category and only 1 participant remained in the moderate category. These findings indicate that interactive education using discussion, visual media, and question-and-answer sessions can strengthen pregnant women’s understanding of pregnancy emergencies. Similar activities should be continued regularly through pregnancy classes and community health worker assistance.
