Policy introduction

The Journal of Nursing and Public Health publishes scholarship on nursing practice, healthcare delivery, epidemiology and population health. This policy sets out the editorial requirements and recommended procedures necessary to protect research integrity, patient welfare, scholarly quality and transparent publishing. It applies to relevant authors, editors, reviewers and other participants in the publication process.

1. Principle and participation

The journal welcomes evidence-based correspondence from researchers, nurses, practitioners, patients’ representatives and readers concerning published findings, clinical interpretation, methodology, public-health relevance or research integrity. Constructive criticism is not misconduct.

2. Submission requirements

Send a concise, respectful comment identifying article title, DOI or URL, specific disputed claims, supporting evidence and the writer’s competing interests to the Editor-in-Chief through the official journal contact channel. Confidential patient records must not be sent without lawful authorisation and secure handling.

3. Editorial screening

The editor assesses relevance, accuracy, scholarly value and tone. Significant methodological or clinical concerns may require independent expert review. Abusive attacks, advertising and unsupported allegations may be declined, but credible integrity concerns must still be assessed under the misconduct procedure.

4. Right of reply

Original authors are generally invited to respond to material scholarly criticism within a reasonable period. The journal may publish an appropriate letter and author response together or sequentially. Non-response is not proof of misconduct.

5. Correction mechanisms

Verified, limited errors may warrant a correction; serious unresolved doubts may warrant an expression of concern; fundamentally unreliable or unethical work may require retraction under the separate policy. All notices must be linked to the original records and accurately reflected in metadata.

6. Safeguards

Editors must protect confidentiality, avoid conflicts of interest and maintain fair treatment. Discussion of clinical incidents should not disclose identifiable patient details or exceed the evidence.

7. Workflow and review

Correspondence may be managed via the official OJS editorial channel and published in a designated section only if formally enabled. This policy should be reviewed periodically as publication ethics guidance evolves.

Implementation and governance

The Editorial Board should approve this policy, incorporate it into the Author Guidelines and applicable OJS submission or editorial workflows, and review it periodically. Any additional operational requirements described as recommendations must be verified and implemented before being represented as active journal practice.
