Abstract

The campus environment should serve as a safe space for students to pursue their education without the threat of sexual violence. This study aims to examine how students in the Department of Public Administration, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Palangka Raya, perceive the importance of having a safe space from sexual violence. The research employed a quantitative approach using purposive sampling techniques and involved 108 students enrolled in 2023. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using the SPSS program for simple linear regression. The findings indicate a positive and significant influence of students’ perceptions on the establishment of a safe space from sexual violence. The results show that as students’ awareness and understanding of sexual violence on campus increases, so does their willingness to create and maintain a safe environment. Positive perceptions encourage students to behave respectfully and show concern for collective safety, thereby fostering an inclusive, comfortable, and violence-free learning atmosphere. This research is significant as it provides an empirical basis for universities to formulate prevention and response policies to sexual violence based on students’ awareness.
