AUTHORSHIP CRITERIA AND AUTHOR CONTRIBUTIONS POLICY

AGRITEPA: Jurnal Ilmu dan Teknologi Pertanian

Publisher: Unived Press, Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu, Indonesia

Introduction

AGRITEPA: Jurnal Ilmu dan Teknologi Pertanian is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, responsible authorship, transparency, accountability, and ethical scholarly publishing.

As a peer-reviewed journal published by Unived Press, Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu, AGRITEPA recognises that authorship provides appropriate scholarly recognition while establishing responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of published research.

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted to the journal, including original research articles, technical papers, conceptual papers, and case study reports in agricultural food technology, agribusiness, agricultural socio-economics, and related disciplines.

The journal adopts the four authorship criteria recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), and relevant principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Authorship Criteria

To qualify for authorship, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria.

1.1 Substantial Contributions

The individual must have made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the research, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.

Relevant contributions may include developing research questions, designing experiments, collecting agricultural or socio-economic data, analysing research findings, and interpreting scientific evidence.

1.2 Drafting or Critical Revision

The individual must have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.

This may include developing theoretical arguments, explaining research methods, interpreting findings, or substantially revising the scientific discussion.

Language editing, proofreading, or manuscript formatting alone does not fulfil this criterion.

1.3 Final Approval

The individual must approve the final version of the manuscript intended for publication.

All authors must have sufficient opportunity to examine the manuscript, verify their contributions, and confirm the accuracy of the authorship information.

1.4 Accountability

The individual must agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work by ensuring that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Authors must accept responsibility for their own contributions, understand the responsibilities of their co-authors, and have confidence in the integrity of the collaborative work.

All four criteria are mandatory and must be satisfied simultaneously.

Individuals who fulfil all four criteria should be recognised as authors. Individuals who do not fulfil all four criteria should not be granted authorship solely because of institutional position, seniority, financial support, or personal relationships.

2. Author Contributions and the CRediT Taxonomy

AGRITEPA requires authors to provide an Author Contributions Statement describing the specific contributions of each author using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), recognised under ANSI/NISO Z39.104-2022.

The taxonomy comprises the following 14 roles:

  1. Conceptualization: Development of research ideas, objectives, and conceptual frameworks.

  2. Methodology: Development or design of research methods and analytical procedures.

  3. Software: Programming, software development, or implementation of relevant computational tools.

  4. Validation: Verification of research results, analytical processes, and methodological reliability.

  5. Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other formal analytical techniques.

  6. Investigation: Conducting experiments, fieldwork, surveys, interviews, or other research activities.

  7. Resources: Provision of research materials, instruments, data, facilities, or other necessary resources.

  8. Data Curation: Management, cleaning, documentation, preservation, and organisation of research data.

  9. Writing – Original Draft: Preparation of the initial manuscript.

  10. Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, revision, and improvement of the manuscript.

  11. Visualization: Preparation of scientific figures, graphs, diagrams, tables, or other visual materials.

  12. Supervision: Oversight and guidance of the research activities.

  13. Project Administration: Coordination and administration of the research project.

  14. Funding Acquisition: Acquisition of financial support for the research.

Individual authors may undertake multiple roles, and the same role may be assigned to more than one author.

The assignment of CRediT roles does not automatically establish eligibility for authorship. All listed authors must independently satisfy the four ICMJE authorship criteria.

Example of an Author Contributions Statement

Author Contributions (CRediT):

A.B.: Conceptualization, Methodology, Writing – Original Draft, and Writing – Review & Editing.

C.D.: Investigation, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, and Visualization.

E.F.: Supervision, Validation, Funding Acquisition, and Writing – Review & Editing.

All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for the integrity of the work.

3. Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgements

Individuals who do not meet all four authorship criteria must not be listed as authors. Their contributions may instead be recognised in the Acknowledgements section.

Activities that do not independently qualify an individual for authorship include:

  1. Providing research funding.

  2. Holding an institutional or administrative position.

  3. General supervision without sufficient intellectual involvement.

  4. Administrative or technical assistance.

  5. Data collection without meeting the remaining authorship criteria.

  6. Language editing, translation, proofreading, or manuscript formatting.

  7. Providing laboratory facilities, equipment, or research permissions.

  8. Offering general advice without substantial scholarly involvement.

The corresponding author should obtain permission from individuals named in the Acknowledgements section.

AGRITEPA prohibits inappropriate authorship practices, including gift authorship, honorary authorship, guest authorship, and undisclosed ghost authorship.

4. Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the principal contact between the author group and AGRITEPA throughout submission, peer review, revision, publication, and post-publication communication.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  1. Confirming that all listed authors meet the four ICMJE criteria.

  2. Ensuring that eligible contributors have not been improperly excluded.

  3. Obtaining approval from all authors before manuscript submission.

  4. Verifying the accuracy of author names, affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID iDs.

  5. Coordinating the Author Contributions Statement.

  6. Ensuring that relevant funding, conflicts of interest, research ethics, data availability, and GenAI declarations are provided.

  7. Managing editorial correspondence through Open Journal Systems (OJS).

  8. Coordinating responses to editorial and reviewer comments.

  9. Obtaining approval of the final manuscript from all authors.

  10. Coordinating proof corrections before publication.

  11. Responding appropriately to questions or concerns arising after publication.

Where the authors designate a guarantor, the guarantor's identity and responsibilities should be stated clearly.

The designation of a guarantor does not remove or diminish the accountability of other authors.

5. Equal Contribution and Group Authorship

5.1 Equal Contribution

AGRITEPA permits an equal-contribution statement when two or more authors have made comparable substantive intellectual contributions.

Such contributions must be agreed upon by all authors and may be indicated in a footnote or Author Contributions Statement.

Example:

"A.B. and C.D. contributed equally to this work."

Equal-contribution status does not exempt any author from meeting the four ICMJE authorship criteria.

5.2 Group or Consortium Authorship

Research undertaken by a collaborative group or research consortium may be submitted under group authorship arrangements.

The corresponding author must clearly identify the group, distinguish authors from non-author collaborators, and document the contributions of the individuals involved.

All individuals designated as authors must satisfy the established authorship criteria.

Group authorship must also comply with the journal's requirements for accurate author identification and publication metadata.

6. Generative Artificial Intelligence and Professional Writing Assistance

Artificial intelligence tools, including large language models and other AI-assisted technologies, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Any substantive use of GenAI in manuscript preparation, language refinement, data analysis, visualisation, or other scholarly activities must comply with AGRITEPA's Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Authors must transparently disclose relevant AI assistance and independently verify the accuracy and integrity of AI-assisted materials.

Professional medical or scientific writers, language editors, translators, and other writing assistants must be appropriately acknowledged when their contributions do not fulfil the authorship criteria.

Where relevant, funding sources for professional writing assistance should also be disclosed.

Undisclosed ghostwriting and the misrepresentation of intellectual contributions are prohibited.

7. Changes to Authorship

7.1 Before Manuscript Acceptance

Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors, or to change the corresponding author, must be submitted in writing to the Editor-in-Chief.

The request must include:

  1. A clear explanation of the proposed change.

  2. Details of the relevant author contributions.

  3. Written agreement from all authors, including any individuals being added or removed.

  4. An updated Author Contributions Statement, where necessary.

Editorial processing may be suspended until the required documentation has been reviewed.

7.2 After Manuscript Acceptance

Changes requested after acceptance will be considered only when adequately justified and supported by written agreement from all relevant authors.

The journal may postpone publication while the request is evaluated.

7.3 After Publication

Authorship changes requested after publication will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Where appropriate, approved changes will be implemented through a formal correction notice and corresponding updates to publication metadata.

If an authorship dispute cannot be resolved through the editorial process, the journal may refer the matter to the authors' institutions for investigation.

The journal's editors do not act as institutional arbiters of unresolved authorship disputes.

8. Author Names, Affiliations, and ORCID Identification

All authors must provide accurate, complete, and verifiable identification information.

The required information includes:

  1. Full author name.

  2. Institutional affiliation.

  3. Country of affiliation.

  4. Active email address.

  5. Valid ORCID iD.

AGRITEPA requires authors to provide an ORCID iD to support accurate researcher identification, reliable publication metadata, and appropriate attribution of scholarly contributions.

Authors who do not yet have an ORCID iD may register at https://orcid.org/.

The primary affiliation should reflect the institution where the research or substantive scholarly work was principally undertaken.

Additional affiliations may be included where justified.

False identities, misleading affiliations, and inaccurate author information are prohibited.

9. Authorship Disputes and Ethical Misconduct

AGRITEPA is committed to addressing authorship-related concerns fairly, confidentially, and on the basis of verifiable evidence.

Potential violations include:

  1. Listing individuals as authors without their consent.

  2. Including individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria.

  3. Excluding eligible contributors from authorship.

  4. Misrepresenting author contributions.

  5. Concealing significant professional writing assistance.

  6. Providing false author identities or institutional affiliations.

  7. Changing authorship information without the necessary agreement.

The Editor-in-Chief may request written explanations, contribution statements, relevant correspondence, or other supporting documentation.

Unresolved authorship disputes may be referred to the relevant institutions for appropriate investigation.

Depending on the circumstances, editorial actions may include manuscript correction, suspension of processing, rejection, publication of a correction notice, or other appropriate post-publication measures.

10. Implementation through Open Journal Systems (OJS)

AGRITEPA implements its authorship policy through the following procedures:

  1. Publishing the Authorship Criteria and Author Contributions Policy on the journal website.

  2. Incorporating authorship requirements into the Author Guidelines.

  3. Collecting accurate author identities and affiliations during manuscript submission.

  4. Requiring an Author Contributions Statement based on CRediT.

  5. Obtaining confirmation of approval from all authors.

  6. Reviewing relevant funding, conflict-of-interest, research ethics, and GenAI disclosures.

  7. Documenting requests for authorship changes and editorial decisions.

  8. Updating published articles and metadata when authorised changes are required.

  9. Reviewing the implementation of the policy periodically.

11. Policy Review and Updates

This policy will be periodically reviewed by the Editorial Board of AGRITEPA: Jurnal Ilmu dan Teknologi Pertanian to reflect developments in international authorship standards, publication ethics, research integrity, and scholarly publishing practices.

Any amendments will be communicated through the journal's official website.
