EDITORIAL POLICY • Proposed for Editorial Board approval
Policy framework
This policy governs scholarly submissions and publications in midwifery, reproductive health, maternal and newborn care. It should be read with the journal’s Author Guidelines, editorial ethics requirements and applicable law. Operational measures proposed here take effect only after approval and technical implementation by the Editorial Board and publisher.
1. Publication regularity
The journal publishes two regular issues per calendar year. Its 2026 archive identifies Issue 1 as published in April and Issue 2 as published in October. April and October are therefore proposed as the formal recurring publication months, subject to editorial confirmation and consistent statement on the official website.
2. Continuous submissions
The journal should accept submissions through OJS throughout the year unless a temporary suspension is publicly announced. Receipt or acceptance does not guarantee publication in a particular issue; articles are allocated after full peer review, required revision, clinical-ethics verification and production checks.
3. Editorial process
Initial checks should address scope, reporting guidelines, ethics and patient confidentiality. Appropriate manuscripts proceed through the journal’s double-blind peer-review process. Decisions rely on independent scientific assessment rather than publication fees, affiliation or promised turnaround times.
4. Suggested operational targets
Subject to Board approval, suggested targets are acknowledgement within seven days, initial screening within fourteen days, and an initial reviewer invitation period of fourteen days. Review duration and revision deadlines should be set realistically according to clinical complexity and reviewer availability. These are proposed service targets, not guarantees or statements of current practice.
5. Production and article dating
Issue preparation should include copyediting, proofs, metadata checks, copyright statements and assigned DOI verification. The displayed online-publication date must be the actual date; publication must not be backdated merely to meet the scheduled issue month. “Online First” publication requires formal approval, clear versioning and accurate date metadata.
6. Delays and special issues
Material delays should be assessed, documented and communicated on the journal website where appropriate. Special issues require Editorial Board approval and the same independent peer-review and ethics standards as regular issues; special issues must not displace the normal publication schedule.
7. Transparency and audit
The Editorial Board should review schedule adherence, time from submission to decision, time from acceptance to publication, metadata completeness and causes of delay at least annually. Any formal change to frequency or months must be announced and reflected consistently in journal metadata.
Official schedule statement
“Journal of Midwifery publishes two regular issues annually, scheduled for April and October, subject to formal confirmation by the Editorial Board. All submissions undergo editorial assessment and double-blind peer review, and actual publication dates are recorded transparently.”
