EDITORIAL POLICY • Proposed for Editorial Board approval
Policy framework
This policy governs scholarly submissions and publications in midwifery, reproductive health, maternal and newborn care. It should be read with the journal’s Author Guidelines, editorial ethics requirements and applicable law. Operational measures proposed here take effect only after approval and technical implementation by the Editorial Board and publisher.
1. Open-access principle
The journal supports free access to its published scholarly articles, enabling clinicians, midwives, researchers and the public to read and share evidence without subscription barriers. The specific article-level Creative Commons licence must be confirmed against the journal’s currently displayed copyright notices before this policy is formally adopted.
2. Recommended Creative Commons licence
The proposed standard licence is Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), subject to publisher and Editorial Board approval and verification of the licence already attached to existing articles. It allows sharing and adaptation, including commercial reuse, provided that proper credit is given, changes are indicated and adaptations are shared under the same or a compatible licence.
3. Copyright and first publication
Under the proposed arrangement, authors retain copyright and grant the journal a non-exclusive right of first publication and rights necessary to publish, index and preserve the work. No change may retrospectively revoke reuse rights already granted to existing publications.
4. Attribution and ShareAlike
Reuse should acknowledge authors, article title, journal, year and DOI or stable URL; link to the applicable licence; and identify changes. Those who publicly share adapted material must satisfy any applicable ShareAlike terms. Attribution must not imply endorsement by authors, the journal or UNIVED Press.
5. Patient images and third-party material
Patient photographs, ultrasound images, identifiable clinical information, copyrighted scales, illustrations and third-party diagrams may have additional legal or ethical restrictions. Authors must obtain appropriate permissions and consent for publication, and specifically identify third-party material excluded from the article licence. A Creative Commons licence does not override privacy or consent rights.
6. Repository sharing
Authors may share the published version under the applicable article licence while retaining copyright and licence notices and the original citation. Repository deposition does not override third-party restrictions or lawful confidentiality obligations.
7. Consistent notices and OJS metadata
The journal must present the same licence and copyright holder in the Author Guidelines, article PDF, landing page, OJS and DOI registration records where supported. Journal-wide claims about a particular licence should be made only after the publisher confirms the actual licence on current articles.
8. Policy reference
Proposed licence: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ . The rights granted by Creative Commons are subject to the full licence terms and applicable laws.
