EDITORIAL POLICY • Proposed for Editorial Board approval

Policy framework

This policy governs scholarly submissions and publications in midwifery, reproductive health, maternal and newborn care. It should be read with the journal’s Author Guidelines, editorial ethics requirements and applicable law. Operational measures proposed here take effect only after approval and technical implementation by the Editorial Board and publisher.

1. Scope and editorial principle

The journal welcomes original and methodologically robust work concerning preconception care, pregnancy, normal and complex childbirth, postpartum care, newborn health, breastfeeding, adolescent and reproductive health, family planning, infertility, menopause, maternity workforce, respectful maternity care and related health systems. Manuscript type does not lower requirements for ethics, transparency or peer review.

2. Original research articles

Quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods investigations must identify a specific question, scholarly gap and relevant design; explain recruitment, setting, measures, analytical procedures and limitations; and report findings without selective omission. Randomised trials should follow CONSORT and disclose prospective trial registration; observational studies should consider STROBE; qualitative studies should consider COREQ or SRQR as appropriate. Report effect sizes and uncertainty where relevant.

3. Review articles

Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses and substantive integrative or critical reviews are eligible where they add scholarly insight. Systematic reviews should use PRISMA 2020; scoping reviews may use PRISMA-ScR. State databases, complete search strategies, dates, eligibility, screening, appraisal when appropriate, and synthesis. Registration (such as PROSPERO where eligible) should be disclosed; bibliometric maps alone do not establish a meaningful contribution.

4. Case reports and case series

Clinically instructive cases must offer a transferable lesson relevant to midwifery or reproductive health, not simply describe routine care. CARE reporting is encouraged. Explicit, documented consent for publication from the patient or appropriate representative is normally required, including for images and clinically identifiable details; de-identification alone may be insufficient. Never disclose unnecessary identifying detail. Clinical case management must be described accurately without presenting unverified efficacy claims.

5. Short communications

Concise, focused original evidence or validated methods with clear scholarly significance may be considered. Preliminary findings must not overstate clinical effectiveness, and authors must report uncertainty and limitations. All applicable ethics and consent requirements continue to apply.

6. Letters to the editor and scholarly correspondence

Letters may address a previously published article, new evidence or an important methodological issue. Arguments must be evidence-based and respectful. Original authors should be offered a reasonable opportunity to respond to substantive criticism. Letters should be screened and peer-reviewed when substantive original evidence is presented.

7. Preparation and submission

The currently published Author Guidelines permit Indonesian or English submissions, specify a maximum of 14 pages including references and attachments, and an abstract of 100–250 words. These requirements remain controlling until formally revised. Authors must use the current official template and submit through OJS. Category-specific exceptions require advance editorial approval.

8. Mandatory statements and screening

As applicable, include ethics committee name and approval identifier, informed consent, trial registration, patient consent for case material, funding, competing interests, CRediT authorship, data availability, AI use and third-party permissions. Initial screening checks scope, originality, research ethics and reporting completeness; accepted categories must match the OJS submission sections.

9. Editorial quality threshold

Advertisements, unverified clinical claims, routine activity reports, duplicate publication, fabricated or manipulated results, studies without necessary ethics safeguards, and articles lacking a substantive contribution are ineligible. Decisions are based on scientific merit and double-blind peer review rather than institutional affiliation or payment.
