Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of external motivation and internal motivation on employee performance at MTs. Negeri 3 Deli Serdang. External and internal motivation are believed to be important factors in improving employee performance in carrying out their duties and responsibilities within the madrasah environment. This study employs a quantitative approach using the associative-causal method. The population of this study consists of 45 employees, who also serve as the study sample (saturation sampling). Data collection was conducted via a questionnaire and analyzed using statistical tests, including validity tests, reliability tests, tests of classical assumptions, multiple linear regression analysis, t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R²) with the aid of SPSS. The results indicate that external motivation has a positive and significant effect on the performance with a calculated t-value of 2.143 > the critical t-value of 1.68195 and a p-value of 0.038 < 0.05. Internal Motivation also has a positive and significant effect on Employee Performance with a calculated t-value of 7.024 > the critical t-value of 1.68195 and a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. Simultaneously, external motivation and internal motivation have a significant effect on employee performance, with a calculated F-value of 51.432 > the critical F-value of 2.83 and a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.710 indicates that these two variables account for 71% of the variation in employee performance, while the remainder is influenced by other variables outside the scope of this study. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that both external and internal motivation play an important role in improving employee performance at MTs. Negeri 3 Deli Serdang.
