Management of Palliative Nursing Care for Patients with Decompensated Hepatic Cirrhosis: A Case Study at Besemah Pagar Alam Regional General Hospital
Abstract
Decompensated liver cirrhosis is an advanced chronic liver disease that causes various physical and psychological symptoms, requiring a palliative care approach to improve the patient's quality of life. To describe palliative nursing care management for patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis at Besemah Pagar Alam Regional Hospital. This was a descriptive case study of a 58-year-old male patient with decompensated liver cirrhosis. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and medical record documentation. The patient experienced abdominal pain, shortness of breath due to ascites, nutritional deficits, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Palliative interventions included symptom management, psychological and spiritual support, nutritional monitoring, and family education and involvement. These interventions helped improve patient comfort and reduce perceived complaints. Holistic palliative nursing care can help control symptoms and improve the quality of life in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis.
