Nursing Care For Colon Ca Patients With A Palliative Care Approach: A Case Study At Besemah Pagar Alam Regional Hospital

Abstract

Colon cancer is a malignancy of the large intestine that can cause physical, psychological, spiritual, social, and nutritional problems, requiring holistic palliative care. This study aims to describe the application of nursing care to patients with colon cancer at Besemah Pagar Alam Regional Hospital.The study used a descriptive method with a case study approach for Mr. A, aged 49. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and medical record documentation. Nursing interventions included pain management, deep breathing relaxation, psychological support, nutritional fulfillment, spiritual support, and family involvement. The assessment results showed the patient experienced chronic pain, anxiety, sleep disturbances, nutritional imbalances, activity intolerance, and spiritual distress. After palliative care, the patient appeared calmer, pain decreased, and sleep quality improved. The study's conclusions indicate that holistic palliative care can help improve the comfort and quality of life of patients with colon cancer.
