Abstract
Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a chronic, progressive disease that causes decreased kidney function and requires long-term hemodialysis therapy. This condition often causes physical, psychological, social, and spiritual problems that impact the patient's quality of life. Objective: To describe the application of palliative care in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis to improve the quality of life. Method: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach on Mrs. S, 52 years old with end-stage CKD undergoing hemodialysis at Empat Lawang District Hospital. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and medical record documentation. Results: The results of the assessment showed nursing problems in the form of hypervolemia, fatigue, sleep pattern disturbances, decreased appetite, anxiety, and spiritual distress. Palliative care interventions were carried out through symptom management, fluid balance monitoring, deep breathing relaxation techniques, psychological and spiritual support, nutritional fulfillment, and family involvement. After the intervention, the patient appeared calmer, her shortness of breath decreased, her sleep quality improved, and she was better able to accept her condition. Conclusion: Holistic palliative care can help reduce symptoms, increase comfort, and improve the quality of life of CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.
