Determinants Of Students’ Readiness To Work In The Renewable Energy Sector At Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin
Abstract
The global transition toward renewable energy demands a workforce equipped with technical competencies, adaptability, and environmental sustainability awareness. This study analyzes the factors influencing the work readiness of students in the renewable energy sector at Politeknik Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (PTSS), Malaysia. The research employs a quantitative explanatory approach, collecting data through questionnaires distributed to 30 final-year students, developed based on the Work Readiness Theory by Caballero et al. (2011). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS 26. The results indicate that personal and institutional factors have a positive and significant effect on students’ work readiness. Personal factors, including motivation, self-efficacy, and professional attitude, show a slightly stronger influence (β = 0.370) compared to institutional factors (β = 0.362). The simultaneous test produced an F-value of 8.805 with a significance level of 0.001, indicating that both variables jointly explain 59.5% of the variance in work readiness (R² = 0.595). These findings emphasize that the synergy between individual motivation and institutional support such as curriculum quality, laboratory facilities, and industry collaboration is crucial in producing vocational graduates ready to compete in the renewable energy sector. The study recommends curriculum alignment, structured implementation of work-integrated learning, and the development of industry-certified micro-credentials to strengthen the competitiveness of vocational graduates in supporting Malaysia’s green economic transition.
