Analisis Isi Kuantitatif Komentar Media Sosial Threads Terhadap Narasi ‘Ruginya Menjadi Wanita Di Bali’
Abstract
A viral social-media thread titled “The Cost of Being a Balinese Woman” posted by the account @raramonchoott on 10 June 2026 triggered thousands of netizen responses and became a public discourse space on the issue of customary patriarchy in Bali. This study aims to quantitatively measure the tendency of attitudes and dominant themes in comments appearing on the thread. A quantitative content analysis method was applied to a population of 4,600 comments (as displayed on the post's metadata), with a sample of 368 comments selected through simple random sampling based on Slovin's formula (a 5% margin of error). The units of analysis were coded into four attitude categories and eight thematic categories. The results show that 49.2% of comments were neutral-descriptive testimonies without an explicit stance, 28.0% expressed support for the thread's narrative, 12.8% were questions/clarifications, and 10.1% expressed disagreement or offered counter-narratives. Thematically, comparisons with other ethnic groups/religions and husband-in-law relations/domestic patriarchy each appeared in 12.5% of comments, followed by inheritance (7.6%) and ritual/customary obligations (6.2%). These findings confirm that Threads/social media comment sections function as an arena of plural gender-discourse contestation, rather than merely a one-sided echo chamber.
