The Effect of Vehicles Making U-Turns on Speed with Google Traffic on Jl Kolonel H. Burlian Palembang
Abstract
The growing number of vehicles in urban areas, particularly on arterial roads such as Jalan Kolonel H. Burlian Palembang, has given rise to various traffic problems, such as congestion and reduced vehicle speeds. One of the main causes is the activity of vehicles making U-turns. This study aims to analyze the effect of the volume of vehicles making U-turns on speed drops using field observation data and secondary data from Google Traffic. The methods used included direct surveys at three times (morning, afternoon, evening) and data processing using Google Spreadsheets and Apps Script to obtain 5-minute speed data. The results showed that the higher the volume of vehicles making U-turns, the greater the reduction in vehicle speeds around the U-turn location. The speed reduction reached more than 50% at certain points, indicating significant disruption to traffic flow. The conclusions of this study suggest the use of real-time traffic monitoring technology to improve road efficiency and reduce the potential for congestion and accidents around U-turn areas.
