Abstract

Intoduction: Diarrhea is a symptom of infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites, commonly transmitted through contaminated water. The Indonesian Health Survey conducted in 2023 reported an overall diarrhea rate of 2% across all age categories. Diarrhea cases in toddlers were recorded at 4.9%, while in infants, the rate was 3.9%. In South Sumatra Province, there were 46,379 recorded diarrhea cases, accounting for 48.41% of total incidents. This indicates a significant decrease compared to the previous year, where 70,882 cases (72.43%) were reported in 2019. Among all age categories, the highest incidence of diarrhea in South Sumatra Province in 2020 occurred in Empat Lawang Regency, with 6,653 cases or 14.34% (South Sumatra Provincial Health Office, 2023).  Method: This study employs an analytic design with a cross-sectional research approach, which studies the dynamics of correlation between risk factors and effects through observation or data collection at a single point in time. The population in this research consists of all mothers with toddlers in the working area of Lesung Batu Health Center, totaling 143 individuals. The sampling technique used is Simple Random Sampling through a lottery method, resulting in a sample size of 59 respondents. Result and Discussion: The findings of this study indicate a relationship between knowledge and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the working area of Lesung Batu Health Center. Additionally, there is a relationship between dug well construction and the occurrence of diarrhea in toddlers in this area. Conclusion: It is hoped that this research provides scientific information related to child health, particularly regarding well construction and mothers' knowledge about the prevention and initial management of diarrhea in toddlers.
