A Correlation Between Waiting Time For Hospital Admission And Patient Satisfaction At The Emergency Department Of Ar Bunda Hospital, Prabumulih, 2025

Abstract

One crucial indicator of the quality of care in the Emergency Department (ER) is the shortened waiting time for inpatient admission. The waiting time for inpatient admission is the time a patient spends receiving treatment in the ER, calculated from the time a patient is admitted to the hospital until they are transferred to the treatment unit. The gap between patient expectations and the services received is associated with decreased patient satisfaction. This study aims to determine the correlation between waiting time for inpatient admission and patient satisfaction at AR Bunda Prabumullih Hospital. The study design was an observational analytic study to determine the correlation between waiting time for inpatient admission and patient satisfaction. The study used a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires to 83 respondents using purposive sampling. Univariate analysis revealed that more than half of the respondents (62 respondents (74.7%) had an appropriate inpatient admission time of <6 hours, while 21 respondents (25,3%) had an inappropriate inpatient stay of >6 hours. More than half of the respondents (63 people) (75,9%) were satisfied, while 20 (24,1%) were less satisfied. Bivariate analysis revealed a correlation between length of stay and patient satisfaction in the Emergency Department at AR Bunda Hospital, Prabumulih (p-value <0.001) and <α (0.05). The researchers recommend that nurses maintain and continuously improve the nursing services they provide to achieve high patient satisfaction, especially in the Emergency Department.
