Abstract

Cataracts account for 51% of blindness worldwide, affecting approximately 20 million people. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that at least 2.2 billion people globally experience near or distance vision impairment. Patients who have undergone surgery require post-operative eye care and family support. The ability of the family is crucial in the post-operative care of cataract patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between family support and the level of patient compliance in caring for post- operative cataract wounds at the Eye Polyclinic of AR Bunda Prabumulih Hospital in 2025. The research design is quantitative analytical with a cross-sectional approach. The sample taken for this study consists of 44 respondents from a population of 50 using accidental sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire, followed by analysis using the chi-square test. The instrument used was a questionnaire, and the research was conducted from August 1 to 30, 2025. The results showed that the majority of respondents, 27 (61.4%), complied with post-operative cataract wound care, and most received support from their families, totaling 33 respondents (75%). The statistical test yielded a p-value of 0.012. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between family support and the level of patient compliance in caring for post-operative cataract wounds at the polyclinic. Family support significantly influences the level of patient compliance in post-operative wound care. It is recommended that health workers develop health services focused on the family as a facilitator for achieving optimal health at home, ensuring that post-operative cataract patients comply with their wound care.
