Training on the Production of Aromatherapy Candles from Used Cooking Oil Using Kasir Pintar for Inorganic Waste Management in RT 22, Sawah Lebar Baru
Abstract
Waste cooking oil management as household waste remains suboptimal, creating the potential for environmental pollution, despite its considerable potential to be transformed into value-added products. In addition, limited community capacity in managing business administration digitally poses challenges to the development of micro-enterprises based on waste processing. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of residents of RT 22, Sawah Lebar Baru Village, Bengkulu City, in processing waste cooking oil into aromatherapy candles and implementing the Kasir Pintar application as a tool for digital business management. The program employed the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) method through several stages, including observation, counseling, demonstrations, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation. Evaluation was conducted through observations of participants’ skills, discussions, and practical use of the Kasir Pintar application to assess participants’ understanding after the training. The results demonstrated that the training successfully improved the knowledge and skills of the residents of RT 22, Sawah Lebar Baru Village, in processing waste cooking oil into aromatherapy candles, covering material preparation, production processes, and product packaging. Waste cooking oil, which previously had no economic value, was successfully converted into marketable products with economic potential. The cost of goods manufactured (COGM) for aromatherapy candles packaged in glass containers was Rp 4,434 per unit, with a selling price of Rp 6,500, while the COGM for aromatherapy candles packaged in cans was Rp 1,578 per unit, with a selling price of Rp 3,000. Furthermore, the implementation of the Kasir Pintar application improved the community’s ability to record transactions, manage inventory, and prepare digital sales reports related to the sorting of inorganic waste within the RT 22 neighborhood.
