Abstract
Cataract is a degenerative process in the form of clouding in the lens of the eye that causes decreased vision ability to blindness. WHO estimates that as many as 42% of cases of blindness in the world caused by cataracts come from Southeast Asia. The incidence of cataracts in Indonesia is around 0.1% (210 thousand people) per year, while only around 80,000 people are operated on per year. The prevalence of cataracts in South Sumatra Province obtained from the 2024 health profile was 512 cases. The purpose of this study was to determine what factors were related to the incidence of cataracts in the Empat Lawang Regional Public House in 2025. The study design used Cross Sectional, namely a study to study the dynamics of the correlation between risk factors and effects, by means of an approach, observation or data collection simultaneously at one time. The population studied was all patients who received treatment at the Empat Lawang Regional Public Hospital Eye Clinic from January to May 2025, totaling 241 people. The sampling technique used accidental sampling. The sample of this study was 71 respondents. The results of this study showed that more than half of the respondents 44 (62.0%) did not experience cataracts, more than half of the respondents 39 (54.9%) had diabetes mellitus, some respondents 41 (57.7%) had an age that was not at risk, some respondents 39 (54.9%) had basic education. There is a relationship between diabetes mellitus and the incidence of cataracts at the Empat Lawang Regional General Hospital in 2025. There is a relationship between age and the incidence of cataracts at the Empat Lawang Regional General Hospital in 2025. There is a relationship between education and the incidence of cataracts at the Empat Lawang Regional General Hospital in 2025. Suggestions for this study can be used to find out about the factors related to the incidence of cataracts, and can be used as a reference for conducting further research.
