The Effect of Quartet Cards and Occupational Therapy on the Socialization Skills of Patients with Social Isolation
Abstract
Mental disorders like schizophrenia are complex conditions frequently causing social isolation, which significantly diminishes patients' socialization skills. At Soeprapto Psychiatric Hospital in Bengkulu City, rising cases of schizophrenia and social isolation highlight an urgent need for effective treatments. Alternative interventions, notably the Quartet Card and Occupational Therapy, are proven to successfully enhance these essential social skills. This study strictly aims to determine the effect of implementing the Quartet Card and Occupational Therapy on the socialization skills of socially isolated patients at this specific psychiatric hospital. This research employed a quasi-experimental design utilizing a pretest-posttest control group approach. A simple random sampling technique yielded thirty-two respondents divided equally into intervention and control groups. The main data collection instrument was the Social Skills Training questionnaire, rigorously tested for validity and reliability. Results: Statistical evaluation using the Mann-Whitney test revealed a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05). This demonstrates a statistically significant impact following the implementation of the Quartet Card and Occupational Therapy on improving socialization capabilities of socially isolated individuals. The combined application of the Quartet Card and Occupational Therapy is highly effective in significantly enhancing socialization skills among socially isolated psychiatric hospital patients in clinical care settings.
