Pelatihan Pengelolaan Sampah Berbasis Circular Economy pada Anggota Bank Sampah Unit (BSU) Maju Bersama, Kelurahan Sawah Lebar, Kota Bengkulu
Abstract
Urban household waste management still faces challenges such as high volumes of waste accumulation, limited utilization of organic waste, and low added value from inorganic waste management. This Community Service (PkM) activity was carried out at the Maju Bersama Waste Bank (BSU) in Sawah Lebar Village, Bengkulu City, which has 35 active members and the potential to be developed as a circular economy-based waste management center. This activity aims to improve the community’s capacity to reduce waste at the source, process organic and inorganic waste, and enhance product management and marketing capabilities. The implementation method employed a participatory approach through the stages of outreach, training, technology application, mentoring, evaluation, and strengthening program sustainability. Organic waste processing focused on producing organic fertilizers—such as compost, liquid fertilizer, and eco-enzymes—using simple, household-scale technologies, while inorganic waste was managed through sorting, washing, and the development of processed products or crafts with economic value. In terms of management, training was provided on production record-keeping, administration, finance, and the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs). Marketing efforts were strengthened through branding, packaging, pricing, product diversification, and the use of social media as a digital marketing tool. The results of the activities show an increase in members’ understanding and skills in waste sorting and processing, supported by the availability of household-scale processing facilities. Strengthening management practices has helped members keep more organized records of production and finances, while marketing training has improved members’ readiness to develop branding and utilize digital media to expand their market reach. These activities contributed to waste reduction at the source, increased the value of waste, strengthened community participation, and fostered the development of a more self-reliant and sustainable waste management system based on the circular economy.
