Design and Development of the Vocaup! Website for English–Indonesian Vocabulary Learning Based on Flashcards and Quizzes
Abstract
Conventional English vocabulary learning methods, such as memorizing word lists, are often considered less effective because they offer little interactivity and provide no immediate feedback. This study aims to design and develop the Vocaup! website, an English–Indonesian vocabulary learning platform equipped with interactive flashcards, quizzes, pronunciation audio, and progress tracking. The system was developed using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Waterfall model, covering requirements analysis, system design using UML, implementation using native PHP and MySQL, black box testing, and evaluation and improvement. The system provides illustrated flashcards with audio, quizzes with translate, listening, and arrange-words question types, a guest mode, login to store learning progress, badges as a gamification element, and an admin panel to manage user data, vocabulary, and quiz questions. The results show that the Vocaup! website provides an interactive and easy-to-use vocabulary learning medium, and all features work according to user needs and support independent learning. The website is expected to serve as an accessible digital learning alternative for a wide range of learners.
