Abstract

This study aims to implement the Selection Sort and Binary Search algorithms in a mobile-based Point of Sales (POS) application to improve the speed and efficiency of grocery product retrieval at Toko Rifki Kampung Melayu. The study employed Research and Development (R&D) with a software engineering approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Selection Sort was used to arrange products alphabetically, while Binary Search was applied to locate products in the sorted array. The system uses a local SQLite database and can operate offline. Black-Box Testing of seven scenarios achieved a 100% Success Rate. Performance testing showed that Selection Sort sorted 13 items with 100% accuracy in 1.2–2.5 ms. Binary Search located the target in three iterations with a search time of less than 1 ms, while the theoretical maximum for 13 items is four iterations. These results indicate that the combination of the two algorithms effectively supports fast and accurate product retrieval and improves transaction efficiency.
