Gingivectomy on the Maxillary Central Incisor: A Case Report
Abstract
Exaggerated gingival display is one of the esthetic features of the periodontium, which is related to the attractiveness of a smile. APE (Altered passive eruption) margin gingiva failed to migrate apically to reach the level at or near the cementoenamel junction (CEJ), so that the gingival margin was more incisal/coronal to the crown of the tooth. In APE cases, gingivectomy is performed by cutting the gingival tissue to remove the lateral wall of the pocket so that the clinical crown length will increase and be symmetrical with the clinical crown length of the adjacent teeth. In this case report, we will discuss the treatment of gingivectomy using conventional techniques in a 22-year-old male patient with a shortened gingival appearance on teeth 11 and 21.
