Penerapan Integrated Farming System Berbasis Circular Economy pada Usaha Pekarangan KWT Cindai di Desa Air Satan
Abstract
This community service program was motivated by the suboptimal management of home-yard farming activities by the Cindai Women Farmers Group in Air Satan Village. The main problems included the separate management of vegetable cultivation and chicken farming, high dependence on chemical fertilizers and commercial feed, limited utilization of organic waste, and inadequate business record-keeping. This program aimed to improve production efficiency, organic waste utilization, home-yard productivity, and the economic independence of group members through the implementation of an Integrated Farming System based on circular economy principles. The program was implemented using a Participatory Action Research approach through preliminary surveys, problem identification, institutional coordination, socialization, training, demonstrations on compost production, liquid organic fertilizer preparation, supplementary feed formulation, pilot-unit implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The results showed the establishment of an integrated home-yard farming system that connected vegetable cultivation, chicken farming, and organic waste processing within a single production cycle. The program produced 15–20 kilograms of compost per month, 5–10 liters of liquid organic fertilizer per month, and 35–40 kilograms of vegetables per month per unit. It also increased vegetable production by 30%, reduced fertilizer costs by 50%, reduced feed costs by 30%, and achieved technology adoption among 80% of members. This program improved technical skills, transformed members’ perception of waste as a productive resource, and strengthened simple business management practices.
