The Effect of Speed Training on Ball Dribbling Skills Among Futsal Players in the Extracurricular Program at SMP Negeri 20 Bengkulu City
Abstract
Dribbling is a fundamental futsal skill because it supports ball possession, the ability to beat opponents, and the creation of attacking opportunities. This study examined the effect of speed training on the dribbling skill of futsal players participating in the extracurricular program at SMP Negeri 20 Bengkulu City. A quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. All 20 students enrolled in the futsal extracurricular activity were included as the study sample. Dribbling performance was measured before and after a structured speed-training program. Data were analysed using normality and homogeneity tests followed by a paired-samples t-test. The pretest and posttest data met the required distributional assumptions. The hypothesis test produced a t value of 22.557 with a two-tailed significance below 0.001, while the mean pretest-posttest difference was 2.0400. The posttest performance indicated faster and more controlled completion of the dribbling task. These findings demonstrate a statistically significant improvement after the intervention. Speed training can therefore be incorporated into school futsal training as a systematic component for improving dribbling performance, while technical execution, coordination, and training continuity remain important considerations.
