The Effect of Weight Training Using Dumbbells on the Speed of Side Kicks (T) Among PSHT Students on Jalan Nangka, Bengkulu City
Abstract
Side-kick speed is an important technical performance component in pencak silat and depends on the ability of the lower-limb muscles to generate force rapidly. This study examined the effect of training with dumbbell weights on the speed of side kicks (T) among PSHT students on Jalan Nangka, Bengkulu City. A quantitative one-group pretest-posttest experimental design was used. The population and sample consisted of 15 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a 10-second side-kick speed test administered before and after the training program. The analysis included normality and homogeneity testing and a t-test at a 0.05 significance level. The mean score increased from 12.80 at pretest to 15.46 at posttest. Hypothesis testing produced a t value of 4.641, exceeding the critical value of 2.145, with a two-tailed significance of 0.001. These results indicate a significant improvement following weighted training. Simple external loading can therefore be used as a practical variation for improving side-kick speed, provided that the load is adjusted to the participants' capacity so that movement quality and training safety are maintained.
